Sparrowflight's azul eyes searched the territory beneath her. She lay perched on her mountain cliff, still shaking from her dreams. "Help me!" The dark-furred apprentice cried, eyes wide with terror. The burning pain was spreading through her limbs. But she would never make it...a screech split the air. Sparrowflight yowled and fell to the ground...all strength lost... she had woken with a jolt and immediately slipped out of the warrior den. She had to get away from the dreams. But they would never go. If only Starclan would send a sign that he was with him. Maybe then she would be able to sleep at night. First light was approaching and the deputy could see the sun begin to rise. The Dawn patrol would be waiting. However, the she-cat couldn't make herself move. She had not felt this week since that horrific day. So Sparrowflight stayed when she was. Perhaps they would find her...before her dreams could destroy her.

[Do you mind if Cougarheart joins? I don't do much with him.]
A brown furred tabby padded up beside the she-cat, his green eyes full of concern. "Are you alright?" he asked as he sat down beside Sparrowflight, "You've seemed distressed as of late. I was worried when you left earlier." Nudging her shoulder with his nose, the tom purred a gentle purr, hoping to help his deputy relax. It helped him calm himself too, for he was fully worried about his apprentice, his sisters, and now the deputy of his home. When would the worry end? "We're going to need the Dawn patrol soon," Cougarheart whispered, "Who do you want to go out? I'll send word back to the camp for you..."

OOC: I was hoping someone would reply!
Sparrowflight jumped when Cougarheart approached her softly. She had been so wrapped up in her memories, the present seemed far away. "Thank you," she mewed although she wasn't sure for what yet. Maybe for caring? The perceptive she-cat could sense worry emitting from the warrior and wondered if he too had hidden emotions. Perhaps allowing herself to get reassurance from another cat would make the dreams disappear... "Don't go." She pleaded, all deputy authority gone from her normal voice. She sounded fragile to herself. "Cougarheart, have you ever lost somecat so dear to you. And...and you never thought anything would ever make up for that? Like you would never get a second chance? And maybe..." Sparrrowflight looked deep in to the tabby's eyes. "the cat won't leave you alone? Ever? They just won't go away..."

"I can't say that I do," the tom murmured, and settled in beside Sparrowflight, "But I will listen to you, if that would help you with your struggle." The tabby cat smiled and nudged her shoulder once more. "Maybe it's you who can't let the cat go? Maybe you feel guilty about something and it's hanging in your mind, striking you whenever you let your guard down?" Cougarheart said sadly, "The only thing I've dealt with is the deaths that were by my paws. The innocent cats during the raids, the ones who didn't need to die....didn't deserve to die." The tom smiled weakly. "But enough about my pitiful self," he chuckled, "What is haunting your thoughts, Sparrowflight?"

Sparrowflight took a breath and leaned into Cougarheart's pelt for support. His warmth relaxed her. "What I am about to tell you," she began, keeping her eyes on his. "I have never told any cat. After what happened...they all turned to me for answers or even emotion and I couldn't give it to them." She turned her gaze to the open landscape before her. The sun was higher now and its light cast her shadow upon the rocks. "I had an apprentice, his name was Shadowpaw. He was my very first apprentice and I couldn't wait until training began. He is the reason I am deputy today. It was our second moon of training together and he and I and Lilytail, I don't know if you ever met her, we were on border patrol. Lilytail scented badger right away in our territory." Sparrowflight took a deep breath and pressed her pelt closer to Cougarheart absentmindedly. "It charged us when it found our scent, we happened to be downwind. I told Shadowpaw to run but as he streaked away, the badger followed him. So he turned...to fight. I...I didn't make it in time..." Sparrowflight trailed off, eyes wide with grief.

Cougarheart leaned into Sparrowflight's body, his tabby pelt blending with her own. "Don't blame yourself," he murmured, giving her ear a reassuring lick, "There's no need to do that to yourself, or to his memory." The tom looked out over the landscape and then sighed peacefully. "Sparrowflight," he said, his eyes still looking over the territory, "Keeping these things inside yourself will only make it worse, and it might make you go mad. And we don't want that to happen to such a pretty she-cat like yourself." And with that, Cougarheart looked away, for he had unconsciously turned back to face her. His ears were pinned back on his head and his tail twitched in embarrassment.

"I know I shouldn't but its so hard for me to...allow others to know what I am feeling. It makes it difficult for me to help them when what I hurt from get's in the way." Sparrowflight's tail twitched pleasantly as Cougarheart's tongue rasped over her ear. "You are the first cat who has ever heard that story and with what you advise me in mind, I hope you will not be the last." As Cougarheart complimented the she-cat on her looks, she too looked away in embarrassment. But the deputy summed up her feelings in two syllables that showed she wasn't really that ashamed of what he had done. In fact, she rather liked the fact somecat had noticed her. No cat had done that in a very, very long time. "Thank you," She whispered. Silently, Sparrowflight entwined her tail with his. "I am glad you were the first though."

The tom smiled, relishing in the warmth of the sun and of the she-cat next to him. It was a happy time now. Cougarheart had helped the deputy of the clan to let go of her feelings, to open up to him. "You're welcome," he murmured back to her, pressing his nose to her cheek, "I would run through storms if it made you smile. I can't bear the thought of you being sad, closed up like a flower in the leafbare." The tabby purred gently to her and licked her ear again. "It would be better if you were like the flowers in the newleaf. In full bloom, their petals opened to absorb the warmth of the sun." Cougarheart, the brother to the reincarnated Falconstar, placed one of his paws over hers and purred with a deeper timbre.

OOC: Nope! ^_^ I think its adorable! I will reply now...
Sparrowflight could not believe what the tom was saying to her. She had always liked Cougarheart, had even entertained how handsome he was in her mind. Never though had it occured to the deputy that Cougarheart felt the same way. Sparrowflight purred, "I would jump down any cliff, fight any badger, and swim any current if only you would be with me always. I would love to be your flower, open, because you are here." Sparrowflight, the deputy of Skylcan and cat who had experienced lonliness all her life, lifted her tail and entwined it with the cat she loved.

"Then be my flower always and forever," the dark tabby purred, love in his voice. Even when they were younger, Cougarheart had a special place in his heart for the pretty apprentice. Now he felt like his heart was full to bursting with the love he felt for her. "Falconstar might not approve," he realised, sadness creeping into his happy place, "Her deputy mated with her brother." The tom then chuckled. "What irony," his voice regained some of its happiness, but his heart feared what would happen to them. Cougarheart knew that if they had kits, it would break the warrior code...but with only three apprentices, the clan wouldn't continue to thrive like it always had. Besides, he and Sparrowflight would make pretty kits. [That last part was for your benefit, Sparrow. ]

OOC: Lol, hint hint? We might have to wait a little while for that.. Sparrowflight smiled and nodded her head. She laughed at the irony involved with her and Cougarheart. In the pit of her stomach, she knew Falconstar trusted her. She would never be able to hide this from her. "She may not," Sparrowflight agreed. "But we will have to tell her soon...I think." Not wanting to ruin the beautiful moment she and her mate shared, the deputy had taken her time signing her heart away. Reluctantly though, the she-cat knew she had to get back to her deputy duties. Slowly, savoring the affection that was flowing between the two cats, Sparrowflight stood and gently removed her paw from underneath Cougarheart's. "I have to go back to the camp," she sighed. Leaning down, Sparrowflight whispered in Cougarheart's ear. "I love you my sweet." Then the she-cat walked away, the sunrise behind her.
